Ashura 2024 – When is 10th Muharram 2024

In a recent announcement, Islamic authorities have confirmed the dates for Ashura 2024, marking the 10th day of Muharram in the Islamic calendar. This significant event, commemorating important historical and religious occurrences, will be observed on different dates across the world due to variations in moon sighting.

According to the released schedule, Arab countries and their aligned regions will observe Ashura on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, corresponding to 10 Muharram 1446 AH in the Islamic calendar. Meanwhile, Pakistan, India, and other Asian nations are expected to mark the occasion on Wednesday, July 17, 2024.

Ashura holds deep religious significance for Muslims worldwide. It is particularly noted for the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS), grandson of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), and his companions. The day is typically marked by processions, rallies, and special gatherings in mosques and Imambargahs where religious scholars discuss the day’s importance and the sacrifices of Ahl-e-Bayt.

Many Muslims observe fasting on this day, following the practice of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him). The Prophet reportedly advised his companions to fast on both the 9th and 10th of Muharram. In line with this tradition, the 9th of Muharram will fall on July 15 in Arab regions and July 16 in Asian countries.

It’s worth noting that these dates are based on expected lunar calculations. The final dates for Pakistan and other countries following similar moon-sighting practices will be officially announced after the Central Ruet e Hilal committee meeting.

As Ashura approaches, Muslim communities worldwide are preparing for this solemn observance, reflecting on its historical and spiritual significance in the Islamic faith.
