German Embassy in Karachi Halts Visa Processing Due to Security Concerns

KARACHI, Pakistan – In an unexpected move, the German Embassy in Karachi has suspended visa services for Pakistani citizens and other non-EU nationals, citing unspecified security issues. The announcement came via the embassy’s official Twitter account, stating that new visa applications would not be accepted “until further notice.”

The sudden closure is expected to affect numerous Pakistanis planning to travel to Germany for education, business, or leisure. However, the embassy has assured that individuals with previously approved visas can still collect their documents.

Embassy officials have not disclosed the nature of the security concerns prompting this decision, leaving many applicants uncertain about their travel plans. The duration of the suspension remains unclear, potentially impacting a large number of prospective travelers.

A spokesperson for the embassy stated, “We regret any inconvenience caused by this temporary measure. We advise all applicants to monitor our official communication channels for updates on the resumption of visa services.”

Local travel agencies report a surge in inquiries from concerned clients. “We’ve been fielding calls all day from people worried about their upcoming trips,” said Asif Khan, a Karachi-based travel agent.

The German Embassy’s decision comes at a time when international travel is gradually recovering from pandemic-related restrictions. Analysts suggest this suspension could have broader implications for Pakistan’s diplomatic and economic ties with Germany.

As the situation develops, Pakistani authorities have yet to comment on the embassy’s decision. Travelers are advised to stay informed through official sources and consider alternative plans if necessary.
