Islamabad Authorities Implement Road Closures as JI Protest Looms

ISLAMABAD, July 26, 2024 – The capital city’s administration has initiated a series of road closures using shipping containers in preparation for the Jamat e Islami (JI) protest scheduled at D-Chowk following Friday prayers today.

Traffic flow was severely impacted at 26 Number Stop, causing major delays for those traveling from Taxila to Rawalpindi. Access to the Srinagar Highway was particularly challenging around 9 am.

Insider reports suggest plans to completely block off several key areas. Faizabad, Bara Kahu, and 26 Number Stop are expected to become inaccessible due to demonstrations by both the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the JI sit-in at D-Chowk. Officials began positioning containers at primary entry points as early as 3 am.

As of this morning, the Faizabad Expressway remains operational in both directions, but this may change. Faizabad Murree Road towards Pindi and Islamabad is fully blocked. The area surrounding the Marriot, known as the Red Zone, is also sealed off, as is Taxila Margalla Road.

Residents are advised to plan their travel carefully and stay informed about ongoing road conditions.
